Not only will this let you save your text messages for the potential of calamity - these backups can be used to transfer your messages and history to another webOS phone. Neuer Patch für webOS löst Datenexportproblem

More and more patches arrive every week on WebOS Internals, and with each patch comes plenty of new and useful functionality. A new patch aims to alleviate a painful problem that has afflicted some Palm owners: getting your contacts out of the Palm Profile. As we’ve reported before, some users have run into an issue where a glitch between the Palm servers and your phone results in the Palm Profile’s personal data getting wiped.

The “Send All Contacts via Email” patch by bsiegel provides a way to get your contacts out of the Palm Profile and into whatever you want. The patch adds the menu option to export your contacts into a standard vCard file (which can take a while if you have a lot) and then attaches that file to an email for you to send to wherever you desire. We’ll use Google as an example here: once exported you can save the vCard file to your computer, and then upload all the contacts to Google by opening Contacts and clicking on Import.

Apart from transferring your contacts from the Palm Profile to Google, you can also use the patch to perform backups of your contacts data, as the patch does not discriminate between sources like Google, Palm, and Exchange.

Problem bei Kalendersynchronisation unter webOS 1.3.5

As reported both in our forums and on Palm’s own support forum, there is an apparent bug in Exchange calendar syncing following the 1.3.5 webOS upgrade this past week. Users report (and I found as well) that when the Pre’s calendar hit January 1, 2010, all Exchange calendar data disappeared from view on the Pre (although some report that alerts continue to work, suggesting the data are there but just hidden). Users who do not use Exchange syncing are not reporting the same problem, and those that delete the Exchange account say that their calendar data reappears; adding back the Exchange account, however, makes it happen again. Note that the bug is on the Pre side only; the data remain untouched on the Exchange server.

Fortunately, there is at least a partial workaround, first suggested by meandmypre in the PreCentral forum: go to Date & Time, turn off Network time, and manually reset the calendar to December 31, 2009. Check your Pre’s calendar; the Exchange data should be back. Now return to Date & Time and change it back to the correct date; the calendar data should remain visible. Unfortunately, if you have to reset your Pre for any reason, this fix will be undone, and you will have to go through the steps again to properly view the Exchange data in your Pre’s calendar.

Hopefully, Palm will figure out the problem and push out a fix ASAP; we’ll keep you posted.

Synchronisation des Apple Adressbuchs und iCal mit dem Palm Pre

Mein ursprünglicher Plan war, einen Artikel zu schreiben, wieviele Minuten – ich dachte so an 15 Minuten – ich brauche, um meinen Palm Pre Start klar zu kriegen und mit meinem Mac zu synchronisieren.
Da die Synchronisation am Mac aber nicht ganz so einfach ist, werde ich mich daher darauf konzentrieren, einen Weg möglichst exakt zu beschreiben, um zu gewährleisten, dass Ihr die Synchronisation in einer flinkeren Zeit schaffen könnt, als ich. Prinzipiell ist es nicht schwer…Aber man muss eben wissen wie es geht.

Aufgabenstellung
- Apple Imac / Mac OS 10.5.6
- Palm Pre (upgedatet auf webOS 1.1.3)
- Adressen verwaltet im Apple Adressbuch (heisst auch Adressbuch)
- Kalender verwaltet in Apples iCal

Es gibt zur Zeit 2 mir bekannte Wege, wie die Sync funktioniert, in späteren kurzen Artikeln gehe ich auf ein paar Test von mir ein, die aber nicht gefruchtet und zu einem positiven Ergebnis geführt haben.

2 Wege die funktionieren:

1.) Weg Nr.1 beschreibt Tom. Sein Weg funktioniert über die Google Adressbuch Verwaltung als Zwischenstelle. Wie es funktioniert, findet Ihr in seinem Artikel:

2.) Ich gebe es zu, Weg Nr. 1 ist mir zu aufwendig. Daher versuchen wir etwas Direkteres und zwar mit einem Tool mit dem Namen “Missing Sync”.
Die schlechte Nachricht gleich vorweg, es ist ein kostenpflichtiges Tool. Es gibt allerdings eine Demoversion, die man herunterladen und testen kann:

In Summe funktioniert das Tool ganz gut, der Kauf kann sich daher auszahlen, aber soweit sind wir noch nicht und vorallem, probiert es selber einmal aus.

Missing Sync
Hat man Missing Sync installiert und gestartet, passiert Folgendes:

Palm Pre mit USB Kabel an den Mac hängen und “Nur aufladen” klicken.
Im rechten, unteren Eck des Palm Screens (Schnellstartleite) auf das schwarze Pfeil-Symbol klicken.
Die Seite mit den Applications / Programmen erreicht man indem man einmal nach rechts über den Bildschirm des Palm Pre´s wischt
(Ich schreibe das so genau, denn solche Kleinigkeiten kosten Zeit, wenn man den Palm Pre ganz neu in Händen hält und noch keine Ahnung hat, wo sich was befindet und wie es funktioniert.)

Was hier gerade passiert? Nun, es gibt 2 Applikationen. Die eine ist auf Ihrem Mac, die andere am Palm Pre.
Die am Mac haben Sie ja theoretisch schon installiert, jetzt wird die zweite für den Palm über das Wlan aus dem Apps Store von Palm geholt.
Starten Sie die Applikation am Palm Pre.
Am Mac erscheint eine Nummer / Code, mit Hilfe dessen sich Ihr Palm Pre und Ihr Mac zukünftig im Wlan finden werden.
Geben Sie diese Nummer am Palm Pre in der Apllikation Missing Sync ein.
Am Mac können Sie jetzt auswählen was synchronisert werden soll.
Anmerkung: Wie die Synchronisation der Musik funktioniert, ist mir selbst noch unklar, denn eine Einschränkung auf bestimmte Playlists kam mir bis jetzt nicht unter.
Die “Musik” ist am Screenshot zwar angehakt, hat aber nicht funktioniert.

So. Geschafft. Die Synchronisierung läuft. Beim ersten Mal kann es etwas dauern, denn einmal müssen ja alle Daten hinüber geschaufelt werden.
Beim nächsten Sync werden ja nur mehr die Änderungen übernommen, daher geht es dann schneller.

Laufende Synchronsiation
Diese erfolgt stündlich (kann man in der Applikation am Palm Pre einstellen, natürlich kann man es auch nur manuell machen), sofern man mit beiden Geräten im selben Wlan ist.
